Dee's Poem To Me

WINTER NIGHTS

By Dee

On winter nights
as the wind howls outside,
I snuggle under my blankets
No warm body by my side.

I close my eyes
and think of lovers
who use to warm me
under these covers.

Where are they now?
Are they alone
Longing for another
to keep them warm?

Do they think about
The hours we spent
Holding each other tight,
Wrapped together in
Love spoon fashion
Cuddling through the night?

Those nights were supposed
to last forever,
Though we knew inside they wouldn't
We loved and said we'd never part
We really thought we couldn't.

Now winter winds are howling
The ice forms on the trees
My bedroom candles ever glowing,
Light my reverie.

Winter nights depress me
I hibernate to escape them.
I long for spring and warmer nights
To melt the my icy heart within.

I'm not a winter person.
My darker side shows through
My meager insecurities
Expose themselves to you.

I'll find my brighter side
As spring flowers start to bloom
'Til then, I'll snuggle by myself
Alone in my bedroom.

I celebrate being single
When the weather is bright and sunny.
I have the energy to walk or run
and find my insecurities funny.

I'm still the same, warm person
An intelligent, loving woman
I need to realize and remember
Like me, my lover is only human.

I have many cyberlovers
Who cheer me with their notes
But one is very special
Because we share our hopes.

Winter nights are lonely
But your love will keep me strong.
I can get through anything
With you to help me along.
